Nitin Gadkari is the longest serving Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, currently in his tenure for over a decade, and is the only person to serve under a single portfolio for 3 consecutive terms. Popularly known as the “flyover man of India” as the Construction of national highways (NH) touched around 12,300 km in the fiscal year 2023-24 almost 34 km per day, the National Highway (NH) network increased by 60% from 91,287 km in 2014 to 1,46,145 km in year 2023 He is also credited for the extensive use of e-rickshaws instead of hand-pulled rickshaws as his brainchild towards a more environmentally conscious last-mile mobility and connectivity in India. He pioneered the concept of Public-Private partnership (PPP) in infrastructure development. His emphasis on hydrogen based fuels and vehicles have positioned him as one of the most progressive legislators in India today.
