Mamata Banerjee

Ms. Mamata Banerjee has been a towering figure in Indian politics and proved her mettle as the first woman Chief Minister of the state in 2011. Her official website says she has published 143 books and composed music & lyrics for Bengali songs that have received 4 Golden Discs. Popularly known as “didi” in political circles, she holds a lot of weight in the Indian opposition at the Central government. Despite BJP almost running a clean sweep across the country she towered as the only hurdle in their last lap as the TMC has won 29 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats from West Bengal, seven more than its 2019 tally. The party’s vote percentage has also gone up from 43.3 per cent in 2019 to 45.87 per cent in 2024. Her role in the India Alliance is also crucial for the political future of the country.
