Sh. S. Somnath, the current Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has been instrumental in elevating India’s space exploration efforts. Under his leadership, ISRO achieved remarkable milestones, such as the successful launch of the Gaganyaan mission, India’s first human spaceflight mission, which is set to make India only the fourth country to send humans into space. He was also a key figure in the Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan) and the Chandrayaan missions, which positioned India as a global player in space exploration. In 2024, Somnath's leadership was pivotal in India’s successful Chandrayaan-3 mission, which made India the first country to land on the Moon's south pole, an achievement that garnered international acclaim.
